Ashland Athletics 16th In Directors’ Cup Through Winter Season

Fifty points from the women's basketball team has moved Ashland University's athletic department to 16th in the country in the final 2015-16 Learfield Directors' Cup Winter Standings, released on Thursday (April 7) morning.

The Eagles have 308 total points, including 283 in the winter. That winter total is the fifth-best mark in all of Division II.

For the first time in Ashland history, all of its winter sports programs – women's basketball, men's basketball, wrestling, swimming and indoor track and field – competed in the NCAA postseason at the same time. Men's indoor track and field led the way in AU winter Directors' Cup points with 67.5, followed by wrestling (61.5), women's basketball, women's indoor track and field (43), women's swimming (36) and men's basketball (25).

AU has moved up from a tie for 138th in the standings through the fall season.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports in Division II – seven men's and seven women's.
