Sittinger, Green Earn Spring GLIAC Commissioner’s Awards

Ashland University junior baseball pitcher Brandyn Sittinger and senior women's golfer Ali Green have earned 2016 spring Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner's Awards.

In 2016, Sittinger was 11-0 with a 2.23 earned-run average in 14 appearances (13 starts). In 88 2/3 innings, he struck out 131 and allowed 65 hits, 27 runs (22 earned) and 40 walks.

Following his junior season, Sittinger racked up many postseason honors, including three All-American awards, three Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year laurels and three first-team All-Midwest Region spots. In addition, he was a finalist for the 2016 Brett Tomko Award (D2 Baseball News national Pitcher of the Year), is the 2016 GLIAC Pitcher of the Year, earned spots on the All-Midwest Region and All-GLIAC Tournament teams and was named first-team All-GLIAC, GLIAC South Division Pitcher of the Week three times and CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Sittinger, who sports a 3.58 cumulative grade-point average and who led the GLIAC in strikeouts in both of his seasons at Ashland after transferring from Division I Marshall, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 17th round (No. 505 overall) of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.

Green made the most of her senior season, winning medalist honors at both the GLIAC and East Super Regional tournaments. She also earned a third trip to the NCAA Division II Championships, and finished in a tie for 37th place individually with a four-day total of 304.

Among Green's 2015-16 accomplishments were a school- and GLIAC Tournament-record round of 67, All-East Region honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), a CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large selection and first-team All-GLIAC laurels. She set the program record for lowest single-season scoring average (75.75) and birdies (60).

Green's final cumulative GPA was 3.88.

Sittinger and Green join senior swimmer Hannah Mattar as AU GLIAC Commissioner's Award recipients in 2015-16. Ashland student-athletes have earned 30 GLIAC Commissioner's Awards since the fall of 2007.

The GLIAC Commissioner's Awards are presented after the fall, winter and spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play.
