Isles, Team USA Blank Brazil In Rio

Former Ashland University football and track standout Carlin Isles scored a try for Team USA's Rugby Sevens team in the Americans' 26-0 win over host Brazil in Day 1 of the first-ever Olympic tournament on Tuesday (Aug. 9).

In its second Pool A game of the day, Isles, who didn't play in Team USA's last-second 17-14 loss to Argentina earlier on Tuesday, scored his try (five points) in the first minute of the second half.

While at Ashland, Isles was a four-time track All-American – two indoors and two outdoors. He continues to boast the school record in the indoor 60-meter run (6.68 seconds), and was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Indoor and Outdoor Men's Freshman of the Meet in 2009. On the football field, Isles has the AU record for longest touchdown play (100-yard kickoff return) and most single-game kickoff-return yards (174).

Isles and the Americans return to the field on Wednesday (Aug. 10) at 12:30 p.m. Eastern against Fiji.
