Former Ashland University football and track standout Carlin Isles made his presence felt in Team USA's Rugby Sevens tournament placing match on Wednesday (Aug. 10) afternoon, scoring three tries in the Americans' 24-12 win over Brazil.
Isles, who played at the end of the United States' final pool match earlier on Wednesday against Fiji, went the distance and scored 15 points against Brazil to lift the Americans to the ninth-place match on Thursday (Aug. 11) at noon Eastern time.
Isles has four tries for 20 points through the first two days of the first-ever Olympic Rugby Sevens tournament.
While at Ashland, Isles was a four-time track All-American – two indoors and two outdoors. He continues to boast the school record in the indoor 60-meter run (6.68 seconds), and was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Indoor and Outdoor Men's Freshman of the Meet in 2009. On the football field, Isles has the AU record for longest touchdown play (100-yard kickoff return) and most single-game kickoff-return yards (174).
