As Week 3 of the 2016-17 Ashland University athletic season begins, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule is starting to ramp up.

The Eagle football team will play another GLIAC home game, both the volleyball and women's tennis teams will play their first two conference road matches, the AU men's soccer team will play three GLIAC games in five days and the Ashland men's golf team travels for a league tournament.

FOOTBALL – The No. 5-ranked Eagles (2-0 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) will play the last of three consecutive home games to begin 2016 on Saturday (Sept. 17) at 7 p.m. against Findlay (1-1, 1-1). The game will be the final conference matchup between the two teams, as the Oilers move on to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in 2017.

MEN'S SOCCER – After dipping their toes back into the water in 2016, the Eagles (2-0, 1-0) will begin to go at a faster pace, starting with a home game on Wednesday (Sept. 14) at 7 p.m. against Lake Erie. Ashland will finish the week with GLIAC road games against the top two teams in the conference's preseason coaches' poll – Northwood on Friday (Sept. 16) and Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Sept. 18).

WOMEN'S SOCCER – The No. 23-ranked Eagles (3-0-1) will take a three-game shutout streak into their home game on Thursday (Sept. 15) against non-conference foe Charleston (W.Va.). Through the first two weeks of play, Ashland is first in the GLIAC in team goals-against average (0.24) and fewest goals allowed (one).

VOLLEYBALL – Ashland (5-3) will play its 2016 home opener on Tuesday (Sept. 13) at 7 p.m. against Malone after beginning the season with eight straight road matches. The Eagles will start GLIAC play on Friday at Findlay and Saturday at Wayne State, as they will play 10 of their first 11 matches of the campaign away from Kates Gymnasium.

MEN'S GOLF – Talk about heading into conference action with momentum – the Eagles finished second at the season-opening Malone University Fall Classic by a single stroke thanks to rounds of 289 and 299. Ashland's men will play on Saturday and Sunday at the GLIAC North Tournament in Grand Rapids, Mich., to finish the month of September.

CROSS COUNTRY – Ashland's men and women return to the course to compete in the Michigan State University Spartan Invitational on Friday. The Eagle men will run the 8K course at 11:50 a.m., followed by the AU women on the 6K course at 12:30 p.m. Ashland's harriers are coming off strong season-opening efforts at the Dayton Flyer 5K on Sept. 3.

WOMEN'S TENNIS – The Eagles (0-2) lost a pair of 8-1 decisions to GLIAC rivals Wayne State and Hillsdale in their home debuts at the newly renovated and expanded Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex. They will head on the road this week for the first time in 2016, playing conference matches in the Upper Peninsula at Michigan Tech on Saturday and Lake Superior State on Sunday.
