The final week of September and the first weekend of October will see eight Eagle programs in action – seven fall programs and the beginning of the 2016-17 swimming and diving campaign.
FOOTBALL – The No. 5-ranked Eagles (4-0 overall, 3-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), buoyed by the largest road comeback of the Lee Owens era in Week 4 at Ferris State, 39-31, go back on the road on Saturday (Oct. 1) at 1:30 p.m. to face Tiffin (2-2, 1-2).
ONE TO WATCH: Junior tight end Adam Shaheen has collected 25 catches for 427 yards and four touchdowns in the first four games of 2016.
WOMEN'S SOCCER – Ashland (5-0-2, 2-0) finished its five-game homestand at 4-0-1, and will go on the road for the first time in conference play for games on Friday (Sept. 30) at 3 p.m. against Ferris State (2-5-1, 0-1-1) and Sunday (Oct. 2) at 1 p.m. vs. No. 1-ranked Grand Valley State (7-0-1, 2-0).
ONE TO WATCH: Junior forward Morgan Bittengle has 13 points (five goals, three assists) through the first seven games of the season.
VOLLEYBALL – The Eagles (8-5, 2-2) got the double-win home weekend they were looking for against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. Now, they go back on the road for another extended period, beginning with three GLIAC matches – Tuesday (Sept. 27) at 7 p.m. against Tiffin (7-5, 1-3), Friday at 7 p.m. vs. Lake Superior State (1-11, 0-4) and Sunday at 2 p.m. against Saginaw Valley State (5-7, 1-3).
ONE TO WATCH: Moving from outside hitter to libero for the first time, senior Casey Clark posted 36 digs in the last two matches.
MEN'S SOCCER – Ashland (4-3, 2-3) takes a two-game winning streak into another three-games-in-five-days stretch. The Eagles will play at home on Wednesday (Sept. 28) at 7 p.m. against Walsh (3-4-1, 1-4-1), then go back on the road to play on Friday against Findlay (2-5, 1-4) and on Sunday vs. Tiffin (6-1, 4-1).
ONE TO WATCH: Senior goalkeeper Nick Ciraldo has played every minute in goal for the Eagles, and is 4-3 with 1.67 goals-against average.
MEN'S GOLF – The Eagles will have had two weeks between tournaments when they go to the Kyle Ryman Memorial in Tiffin, Ohio, on Saturday and Sunday. It will be Ashland's third tournament of 2016-17.
ONE TO WATCH: Sophomore Austin Kondratick's first four rounds of the season have been 70, 73, 73 and 71.
CROSS COUNTRY – Ashland's men and women will run their third race of the season on Friday at 2 p.m. (women, 6K) and 2:45 p.m. (men, 8K) at the All-Ohio Championships on the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio.
ONE TO WATCH: Sophomore Emily Schumaker had led the AU women in each of the first two meets of the season – 19:58.4 in a 5K in Dayton, Ohio, and 23:35 in a 6K at Michigan State.
WOMEN'S TENNIS – The Eagles (0-4, 0-4) return to the Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex for their final two home matches of 2016-17 – Saturday at 10 a.m. against Findlay (0-4, 0-4) and Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. Tiffin (5-1, 3-1).
ONE TO WATCH: Freshman Brianna Brdicka won her first collegiate match on Sept. 18 at Lake Superior State in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
SWIMMING/DIVING – Ashland begins its season, and the Ron Allen era, on Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. at home in a quad meet against Findlay, Northern Michigan and Tiffin. The meet is the first of four home events for the Eagles at Messerly Natatorium in 2016-17.
ONE TO WATCH: Junior Grace Reichard is coming off five top-eight showings at the 2016 GLIAC Championships, including a third-place finish in the women's 200 freestyle relay.
