As the second full week of October begins, the races for Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference positioning continue.

With seven programs in action, Ashland University's fall teams are going to know more about how the rest of 2016 will play out after the next seven days.

FOOTBALL – The No. 17-ranked Eagles are going back on the road to start a three-game swing away from Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field, traveling to Painesville, Ohio, for a GLIAC game against Lake Erie on Saturday (Oct. 15) at 1 p.m. Ashland is 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while the Storm is 0-6, 0-6.

ONE TO WATCH: Junior quarterback Travis Tarnowski has racked up 1,084 yards and 11 touchdowns passing in the last three games.

WOMEN'S SOCCER – Ashland (7-1-3, 4-1-1) will play its last two regular-season games at Ferguson Field for 2016 on Friday (Oct. 14) at 4:30 p.m. against Saginaw Valley State (8-4-1, 2-3-1) and on Sunday (Oct. 16) at noon against Northwood (6-5, 3-3). The Eagles start the week tied for second place in the GLIAC with Michigan Tech (8-2-1, 4-1-1).

ONE TO WATCH: Sophomore forward Deijah Swihart already has scored as many goals (seven) in 11 games in 2016 as she did in 19 games in 2015.

VOLLEYBALL – The Eagles (10-8, 4-5) get a break from GLIAC play, but not from the road. Ashland will play three matches on Friday and Saturday in the 2016 Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover in Aurora, Ill., against 12-6 Bellarmine (Friday, noon), 5-12 Illinois Springfield (Friday, 7 p.m.) and 6-11 Missouri S&T (Saturday, 2 p.m.)

ONE TO WATCH: Sophomore setter Kayla Pfeiffer is sixth in the GLIAC in assists with 660.

MEN'S SOCCER – Ashland (4-6-1, 2-6-1) will embark on another three-games-in-five-days stretch, starting at Lake Erie (6-4-2, 4-4-2) on Wednesday (Oct. 12) at noon. The Eagles will return home for GLIAC games on Friday at 7 p.m. against Northwood (6-2-2, 5-2-2) and Sunday at 4 p.m. vs. Saginaw Valley State (9-2, 7-2).

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman forward Clemente Gomez-Morey has two goals in 2016, and both have been game-winning tallies.

MEN'S GOLF – Returning to the links following a two-week absence, the Eagles will begin play at the Wayne State Tournament on Sunday in Detroit, Mich. It is Ashland's next-to-last fall event.

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman Patrick Steffen has an average score of 74.1 through the first seven rounds of 2016-17.

WOMEN'S GOLF – Ashland will play the second and final round of the Findlay-Beall Fall Classic on Monday (Oct. 10). This is the next-to-last event for the Eagles in the 2016 fall portion of the 2016-17 campaign.

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman Anna Schatschneider posted a season-low round of 83 in Round 1 at Findlay on Sunday (Oct. 9).

WOMEN'S TENNIS – The Eagles (0-8, 0-8) will go back on the road for a pair of GLIAC matches against Ferris State (5-3, 5-3) on Saturday at 10 a.m. and vs. Grand Valley State (6-2, 6-2) on Sunday at 10 a.m.

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman Brianna Brdicka leads Ashland with two singles victories this fall.
