This Week In #EagleNation – Fall Crunch Time Ahead

LINK – ASHLAND UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS COMPOSITE CALENDAR

The fall portion of the 2016-17 Ashland University athletics schedule is entering crunch time as the month of October is winding down.

While the women's and men's soccer regular seasons come to an end this week, football and volleyball each have a few weeks of jockeying to come, and the women's golf team is finishing competition until the spring.

FOOTBALL (LINK)  – The Eagles (7-1 overall, 5-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) are coming off back-to-back road games in which they have outscored their opponents by an aggregate total of 133-20. The end of Ashland's three-game road swing will be Saturday (Oct. 29) at 1 p.m. at Michigan Tech (2-5, 2-5).

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman tailback Keishaun Sims is second on the team in all-purpose yards (766) and rushing yards (523), and is tied for second in touchdowns (six).

VOLLEYBALL (LINK)  – Ashland (15-8, 6-5) enters the week on a five-match winning streak, and thanks to back-to-back GLIAC home wins over the weekend, the Eagles are a half-match out of a chance to host a 2016 GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal. AU will play at Walsh (8-13, 2-8) on Friday (Oct. 28) at 7 p.m.

ONE TO WATCH: Senior outside hitter Casey Clark hit .281 with 23 kills and 24 digs in home wins over Northwood and Hillsdale over the weekend.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (LINK) – The Eagles (9-2-4, 6-2-2) come into the new week tied for second in the GLIAC and No. 5 in the Midwest Region rankings. Ashland also has clinched a 2016 GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal home game on Nov. 1. AU will complete the regular season on Friday at 2 p.m. at Tiffin (3-14, 1-9).

ONE TO WATCH: Junior goalkeeper Courtney Barker's season goals-against average of 0.67 would be the lowest for an Eagle since Patti Cooke's 0.53 in 2003.

MEN'S SOCCER (LINK) – Ashland (4-10-1, 2-10-1) will wrap up its comeback season with yet another three-games-in-five days stretch – Wednesday (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m. at Walsh (5-10-1, 3-10-1), Friday at 7 p.m. at Ferguson Field against Findlay (6-8-1, 5-7-1) and Sunday (Oct. 30) at 4 p.m. at home against Tiffin (11-3-1, 9-3-1).

ONE TO WATCH: Senior goalkeeper Nick Ciraldo goes into his final week of collegiate play with a 1.94 GAA and 91 saves.

WOMEN'S GOLF (LINK) – The Eagles will finish the fall with the two-day Trevecca Nazarene Fall Invitational on Monday (Oct. 24) and Tuesday (Oct. 25) at Old Hickory Country Club in Old Hickory, Tenn.

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman Anna Schatschneider has an average round of 83.5 in the last two tournaments after an average of 88.8 in the first two tourneys.
