LINK – ASHLAND UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS COMPOSITE CALENDAR
The second week of November is a big one in Eagle Nation – two teams continuing to position for potential NCAA Division II postseason berths, one awaiting a postseason call, one continuing its winter season and two more starting their 2016-17 campaigns.
FOOTBALL (LINK) – There is a lot riding on the No. 21 Eagles' (8-2 overall, 6-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) regular-season finale on Saturday (Nov. 12) at noon at Ohio Dominican (7-3, 7-3). Ashland is seeking a D-II postseason appearance for the second year in a row, and a win would give AU a GLIAC South Division title.
ONE TO WATCH: Senior tailback Vance Settlemire has 44 career touchdowns, and needs just one more to tie former backfield mate Anthony Taylor (45) for the most in Ashland football history.
VOLLEYBALL (LINK) – A nine-match winning streak has the Eagles (19-8, 10-5) chasing a D-II postseason spot, as well as a possible home GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal match. Ashland ends the regular season with three matches – at No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit (32-2) on Tuesday (Nov. 8) at 7 p.m., home on Senior Night against Wayne State (19-8, 10-5) on Friday (Nov. 11) at 7 p.m. and home on Parents Day vs. Findlay (19-7, 12-3) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
ONE TO WATCH: In the last four matches, sophomore middle blocker Reanne Neal is hitting .327 with 12 total blocks.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (LINK) – Coming off an 88-79 exhibition loss at Division I Ohio State on Sunday (Nov. 6), No. 5 Ashland will begin the 2016-17 season on Friday at 11 a.m. against Cedarville and Saturday at 6 p.m. vs. Alderson Broaddus in the 2016 GLIAC/Great Midwest Athletic Conference Exempt Tournament at Kates Gymnasium.
ONE TO WATCH: Junior forward Andi Daugherty scored a game-high 25 points at the Buckeyes – 14 coming in the fourth quarter and 20 coming in the second half.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (LINK) – The Eagles begin a new season with two games at the Indianapolis Tournament – Saturday at 3:15 p.m. against the host Greyhounds, and Sunday (Nov. 13) at 2:15 p.m. vs. Southern Indiana. Ashland finished the preseason on Friday (Nov. 4) with an 85-81 overtime win against The College of Wooster.
ONE TO WATCH: Senior guard Boo Osborne scored 20 points and added four rebounds and three steals in the win against the Fighting Scots.
WRESTLING (LINK) – Ashland will go to its second tournament of the young season on Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Ohio Intercollegiates in Cleveland, Ohio.
ONE TO WATCH: Senior Michael Labry made his return to the mat at 133 pounds on Saturday (Nov. 5) at the Eastern Michigan Open, going 5-1 and placing fifth.
WOMEN'S SOCCER (LINK) – The Eagles (10-3-4) will find out their D-II postseason fate on Monday (Nov. 7) at 6 p.m., when the selection show takes place on NCAA.com. Ashland is seeking its first postseason appearance in 12 years.
ONE TO WATCH: Junior forward Morgan Bittengle has scored 35 goals in three seasons, the fourth-highest career total in AU history.
