LINK – ASHLAND UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS COMPOSITE CALENDAR
The week before Thanksgiving has six Ashland University programs in action, including an individual (NCAA Division II) and a team (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in postseason competition.
Home events in November week No. 3 include a home GLIAC volleyball tournament quarterfinal, two days of swimming and diving and a women's/men's basketball twinbill.
CROSS COUNTRY (LINK) – For the second time in three years, Ashland University senior Nick Hall is competing at the NCAA Division II national meet, Saturday (Nov. 19) at 8:30 a.m. in St. Leo, Fla. In 2014 as a junior competing with the entire AU men's team, Hall placed 19th, finishing the 9.65K race in 31:11.20.
Hall earned a spot at nationals after finishing second at the Midwest Regional meet, crossing the 10K tape in 30:23.03.
VOLLEYBALL (LINK) – Ashland (21-9) is the No. 3 seed in the 2016 GLIAC Tournament, and will play host to a quarterfinal on Wednesday (Nov. 16) at 7 p.m. against No. 6 seed Wayne State (19-10). This will be the 2016 rubber match between the Eagles and Warriors – Wayne State won at home 3-2 on Sept. 17, and AU won at Kates Gymnasium 3-0 on Friday (Nov. 11).
ONE TO WATCH: Senior right-side hitter Alli Cudworth needs just 33 digs to become the program's third 1,000 kills-1,000 digs player.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (LINK) – After opening 2016-17 at 2-0 in the 2016 GLIAC/Great Midwest Athletic Conference Exempt Tournament at home, the No. 5-ranked Eagles will stay at home to take on Indianapolis on Saturday at 1 p.m. Ashland has won 27 consecutive regular-season games at Kates Gymnasium.
ONE TO WATCH: Freshman guard/forward Sara Loomis has begun her college career averaging 14.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 60 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (LINK) – Ashland (1-1) will play its third of three straight games away from home to begin 2016-17 on Tuesday (Nov. 15) at 7 p.m. at Shawnee State. The Eagles split their first two games of the season at the Indianapolis Tournament, and are 19-11 in their last 30 road/neutral-site games.
ONE TO WATCH: Sophomore point guard Ben Haraway averaged 14.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, and shot 50 percent from the field, in his first two games as an Eagle.
SWIMMING/DIVING (LINK) – After a two-week hiatus, the Eagle men and women return to the pool for a pair of dual meets against GLIAC foe Tiffin at Messerly Natatorium. Ashland and the Dragons will compete both on Friday (Nov. 18) at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
ONE TO WATCH: Sophomore Erin Staley finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:38.44) and third in the 1,000 free (11:23.05) on Nov. 5 at Wayne State.
WRESTLING (LINK) – Ashland's third straight weekend of action to start 2016-17 will take place on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Findlay Open. This will be the Eagles' final competition of November before beginning dual competition on Dec. 2 at Pitt-Johnstown.
ONE TO WATCH: Junior Luke Cramer was 3-1 with a pin and a technical fall in finishing second at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open on Sunday (Nov. 13).
