76 Ashland Student-Athletes Earn GLIAC Fall Academic Honors

Seventy-six Ashland University fall student-athletes have earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference academic recognition, as the conference's All-Academic Excellence and All-Academic lists were released on Wednesday (Jan. 25) morning.

Thirty-nine Eagles landed on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence teams (cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or better), while 37 Ashland student-athletes earned spots on the GLIAC All-Academic teams (cumulative GPA of 3.0-3.49).

Leading the way in AU athletes on the All-Academic Excellence teams was football with 13, followed by volleyball (eight) and women's soccer (seven). Top Eagle teams for All-Academic were football (23), women's soccer (five) and men's cross country (four).

GLIAC ACADEMIC ALL-EXCELLENCE

Men's cross country – Zach Humrichouser, Steven Kapes, Tyler Sievert and Ryan VanCauwenbergh.

Women's cross country – Austin Borton, Linda Morales and Alexis Smith.

Football – Zach Bernhard, John Davies, Jacob Dingus, Travis Downing, Trevor Downing, Trevor Fay, Dominic Giunta, Jack Holl, Chris Ranc, Adam Shaheen, Aidan Simenc, Justin Wazbinski and Matthew Wilcox.

Women's soccer – Courtney Barker, Jessica Brown, Brittany Ehlert, Carson Janssen, Sam Malleo, Bridget McEldowney and Haley Stinebaugh.

Women's tennis – Natalie Keron, Elizabeth Kidd, Chelsea Myers and Kaitlin Snyder.

Volleyball – Melanie Aguayo, Kaitlin Bean, Alli Cudworth, Michaela Ping, Kayla Pfeiffer, Molly Rajewski, Mallory Slyder and Jacqueline Tanguay.

GLIAC ALL-ACADEMIC

Men's cross country – Jonathan Albaugh, Aubrey Jordan, Tyler Lance and Tommy Menyes.

Women's cross country – Jackie Genetin.

Football – Justin Ashenfelter, John Conner, Kolton Edmondson, Brandon Ehlinger, Brandon Gency, Michael Griffin, Anthony Grundy, Vince Hill, Harrison Hoppel, Myles Houska, Brandon May, Anthony McCarthy, Dan Medvetz, Matt Murphy, Luke Ogi, Travis Pickering, Austin Phillips, Bryce Staats, Isaiah Stiverson, Travis Tarnowski, Corey Timmons, Austin Utter and Adam Wallace.

Men's soccer – Josh Laney.

Women's soccer – Morgan Bittengle, Maddie Diestel, Julie Lacock, Kelsey McKernan and Leanne Prandi.

Women's tennis – Meghann Fitzpatrick.

Volleyball – Casey Clark and Reanne Neal.

The entire Ashland University athletic department sported a cumulative GPA of 3.09 for the fall 2016 semester.

As a whole, the GLIAC recognized 1,197 fall All-Academic Excellence (638) and All-Academic (559) student athletes.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or a first-year transfer student. Grades are based on marks from the fall semester of 2016.
