Thanks to the postseason efforts by the women's basketball, men's indoor track and field and wrestling teams, Ashland University's athletic department has moved up to 22nd in the Division II Learfield Directors' Cup standings at the end of the 2016-17 winter season.

Ashland finished the winter with 263.50 points – 100 from the national-champion women's basketball team, 90 from the second-place men's indoor track and field team and 73.5 from the sixth-place wrestling team. The Eagles compiled the seventh-most winter points in Division II.

Coupled with the 25 points earned by the volleyball team in the fall, Ashland has 288.50 points in 2016-17 going into the spring.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports in Division II – seven men's and seven women's.

The next Division II standings will be released on May 18.
