This Week In #EagleNation – An Action-Packed Slate

LINK – ASHLAND UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS COMPOSITE CALENDAR

As the calendar turns to the second half of April, Ashland University's athletic programs continue to position themselves for potential postseason appearances.

In addition to the five spring programs with a full slate this week, the Eagle football team will play its annual Purple & Gold Spring Game to conclude its spring workout schedule.

OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD (LINK) – The No. 3-ranked Ashland men, and Eagle women, will compete at two meets - at the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic at The Ohio State University on Friday (April 21) and Saturday (April 22) and the Sparky Adams Invitational at Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday. AU's men and women have combined for three automatic and 25 provisional marks for 2017 NCAA Division II nationals, May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla.

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman Arthur Greenlee IV has the 10th-best men's 110-meter hurdles time (14.27 seconds) in the country.

SOFTBALL (LINK) – Ashland (23-18 overall, 10-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), currently sitting in sixth place in the GLIAC standings, will play three doubleheaders – at Brookside Park on Wednesday (April 19) at 3:30 p.m. vs. non-conference foe Wheeling Jesuit, and league road twinbills on Saturday at 1 p.m. vs. Hillsdale and on Sunday (April 23) at noon against Wayne State.

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman catcher Cassie Haight is hitting .344 with five doubles, a triple and 17 RBIs.

BASEBALL (LINK) – The Eagles (13-22, 6-13) have a busy week ahead, with eight games scheduled over a seven-day period. Ashland will play host to Ohio Dominican on Monday (April 17) at 1 p.m. and Grand Valley State on Wednesday at 1 p.m. before going on the road for a four-game set vs. Tiffin on Saturday and Sunday, both at 1 p.m.

ONE TO WATCH: In his last five games, freshman third baseman Kevin Browne is 5-for-14 with eight runs scored, a home run and three RBIs.

WOMEN'S GOLF (LINK) – Ashland will end the month with the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Friday (April 21) through Sunday at Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The Eagles have finished in the top five in six consecutive tournaments, and in eight of 10 tourneys in 2016-17.

ONE TO WATCH: Redshirt freshman Krystal Hu has played in 11 collegiate rounds, averaging 76.82 strokes per round and ending with three top-10 finishes in five tournaments.

MEN'S GOLF (LINK) – The Eagles will compete in the three-day 2017 GLIAC Championships on Friday-Sunday at Virtues Golf Club. Ashland's last action came on April 3-4 at the Spring Regional at Hermitage Golf Club in Nashville, Tenn.

ONE TO WATCH: Junior Gabriel Reynolds finished in a tie for 22nd individually at the regional, finishing at 73-73—146.

FOOTBALL (LINK) – Ashland's annual Purple & Gold Spring Game will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field. It will consist of a regular game format in the first half, 7-on-7 play for a quarter and a "rookie bowl" for a quarter.

ONE TO WATCH: Freshman defensive end Scott Valentine was redshirted in 2016 after a standout career at Ashland High School.
