LINK – ASHLAND UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS COMPOSITE CALENDAR
As the 2016-17 Ashland University academic year comes to a close, the 2016-17 Eagle athletic season isn't done just yet.
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason in both outdoor track and field and softball will take place this week, with both Ashland programs looking for league championships.
OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD (LINK) – The No. 3-ranked Ashland men, and AU women, will compete in the 2017 GLIAC Outdoor Track And Field Championships on Wednesday-Friday (May 3-5) at Grand Valley State. The manual for the Championships, including a schedule, can be found here.
Ashland's men and women take a combined four automatic and 30 provisional marks for 2017 nationals, May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla., into the conference meet. Neither the Eagle men nor women have finished worse than fourth in any GLIAC outdoor meet since joining the conference in 1995-96.
ONE TO WATCH: Redshirt freshman Nick Zak is No. 7 in NCAA Division II in the men's hammer throw (61.76 meters/202-feet-7) and No. 29 in the country in the men's discus throw (50.38 meters/165-feet-3).
SOFTBALL (LINK) – Ashland (28-21) will head into the 2017 GLIAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed, and will begin play on Friday at 10 a.m. vs. No. 4 seed Ohio Dominican at Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio. The tournament concludes on Sunday (May 7) at 10 a.m. or noon, if necessary, and the tournament page can be found here.
The Eagles go into the tournament having gone 21-11 since returning from their annual Florida trip. They also are 8-3 in their last 11 games.
ONE TO WATCH: Since April 14, sophomore pitcher Hannah Stroe is 5-1 with two saves and a 1.99 earned-run average.
