Jeremy Hancock has been named Ashland University's Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Sports Medicine, effective immediately.
"This title reflects the changes that have taken place in Jeremy's job over the last several years," said Al King, Ashland Director of Athletics. "He now supervises five athletic trainers. We've asked him to do more with programming and student-athlete health education. We've asked him to build a comprehensive athletic training department, and he's worked long and hard to do that.
"In addition to his responsibilities in athletic training, there have been times recently when we've asked Jeremy to handle some additional duties. He's excelled in that regard, and there are going to be instances in the future when we come to him with those type of requests again."
Said Hancock, "I'm excited. I'm excited to continue to lead our sports medicine department to new heights. I'm ecstatic that I was given the chance to be an assistant AD. I want Ashland University sports medicine to continue to provide quality health care for our students.
"I would like to thank Al and the Ashland administration for giving me this opportunity."
Hancock, M.Ed., ATC, who had been AU's head athletic trainer, will continue in his roles as athletic trainer for the football, men's golf and women's golf teams. He is finishing his 16th athletic year at Ashland, as he continues to lead the athletic training department and supervise undergraduate athletic training majors.
Earlier this month, Hancock was selected to be on the Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine (ICSM) board, through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), in Division II.
"Jeremy is starting his 17th year at Ashland. During that time, he's established himself as a knowledgeable and caring professional who will do anything for our student-athletes, coaches and staff," King said. "He's earned the respect of his peers, and is well regarded in the community. We're extremely fortunate that he's remained at Ashland University. He could have certainly gone elsewhere. He's committed to this university and athletic department, what we stand for and what we are trying to do. You need to build around those kind of people."
