Thanks in large part to high nationals finishes by its men's indoor track and field and wrestling teams, Ashland University's athletic department made a substantial jump in the first NCAA Division II Learfield Directors' Cup winter standings, released on Thursday (March 15) morning.
Ending the fall season in a tie for 92nd nationally, Ashland has scored the second-most winter points in the country to move into 12th place in D-II, with women's basketball points yet to be determined. The men's indoor track and field team finished fourth in the country for 80 Cup points, while the wrestling team placed fifth at nationals for 75 Cup points.
Ashland also received 44 Cup points from the women's indoor track and field team's 29th-place finish at nationals.
The athletic program's 199 winter points so far this winter are second-most to Adams State's 201.25.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
The next D-II Learfield Directors Cup winter standings will be released on March 29.
