Fast becoming an end-of-school-year Ashland University Athletics tradition, the third annual ASHPY awards, presented by AU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, will be Sunday (April 29) at 7 p.m. in the Upper Convocation Center.
All proceeds from the ASHPY's will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Ashland University community and the Ashland community at large are invited to attend the ASHPY's, and admission is a suggested donation for Make-A-Wish.
SAAC's goal for Make-A-Wish for 2017-18 is to exceed $5,000.
"Although we are a little shy of that mark now, I'm thankful we have great student-athletes who set lofty goals and work hard to achieve them," said Rachel O'Connor, Ashland Senior Woman Administrator/Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Sports Marketing and Promotions. "Overall, I was really impressed with the creativity out of SAAC this year. They tried out some new projects, my favorite was the 'What 'Not' To Wear fashion show they hosted with help from the fashion merchandising department. They worked hard, we raised a couple hundred dollars for Make-A-Wish, and the students had fun."
ASHPY awards will be announced in the following categories – 2017-18 Play of the Year, 2017-18 Best Moment, 2017-18 Game of the Year, 2017-18 Male Athlete of the Year, 2017-18 Female Athlete of the Year, 2017-18 Male Freshman of the Year, 2017-18 Female Freshman of the Year, 2017-18 Record-Breaking Performance, 2017-18 Best Comeback, 2017-18 International Athlete, 2017-18 Best Championship Performance, 2017-18 Coach of the Year, 2017-18 GPA Award, 2017 Spring Female Athlete, 2017 Spring Male Athlete, and 2017 Spring Moment.
