Ashland University's athletic department has maintained a high level of consistency over the years.

That was reinforced once again on Tuesday (May 29) morning with the release of the 2017-18 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Presidents' Trophy (all-sports) standings. Ashland finished second in the Presidents' Trophy race for the 13th consecutive season.

In 2017-18, the Eagles finished with 122 points – 66.5 in women's sports, 55.5 in men's sports. Ashland won GLIAC championships in football and women's basketball.

In its 23 seasons as a GLIAC member, Ashland has won three Presidents' Trophies (1995-96 through 1997-98), has finished second 18 times, and been third and fourth once each.

GLIAC Presidents' Trophy standings are based on final regular-season standings, except for the following sports that are based on conference tournament finish – cross country, golf, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and swimming and diving.

The Presidents' Trophy, commonly referred to as the All-Sports Trophy, is awarded at the end of each year of competition to the conference member having demonstrated general excellence in all or most sports. The award is designed to promote well-rounded athletic programs within each member institution.
