Ashland Athletics Finishes 12th In 2017-18 D-II Directors’ Cup

The final 2017-18 NCAA Division II Learfield Directors' Cup standings are in, and Ashland University's athletic department made a significant jump from 2016-17.

Ashland finished the most recent athletic season at No. 12 in the nation – a 22-spot improvement over 2016-17 (34th). It is the Eagles' best national finish in the Directors' Cup since ending as the D-II runner-up in 2014-15.

The Ashland baseball team provided the final point total for the athletic year with 38. Ashland finished with 573.5 total Directors' Cup points in 2017-18 – 53 in the fall, 289 in the winter and 231.5 in the spring:

In terms of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference programs, Ashland finished with the second-highest point total in 2017-18.

Ashland finished in the top 10 in the nation in the Directors' Cup every year from 2007-08 to 2014-15, and has been in the top 12 in Division II on 11 occasions since the program began in 1995-96.

In 2017-18, 268 Division II programs earned at least one Directors' Cup point.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
