Five Former Eagles Honored In Women’s Athletics Display

The history of Ashland University women's athletics display, on the second floor of the Physical Education Center, has been updated to reflect the fourth group of honorees.

Among the features of the display are memorabilia and information graphics highlighting five key figures, as well as a timeline which traces the history of Ashland College/University women's athletics back to the early 1900s.

The fourth group of honorees are:

- Amy Grogg (swimming 1993-97)

- Joyce Jamattona-Tolar (field hockey 1970-73, tennis 1970)

- Ruth Jones (head basketball coach 1973-77, head volleyball coach 1972, head swimming coach 1971-72, head field hockey coach 1973)

- Becky Richards-Allen (soccer 2000-03)

- Carrie Ritchie (volleyball 2003-04)

Memorabilia and information graphics for Ashland women's athletics athletes, coaches and administrators will rotate every semester. In total, 20 former Eagle women's standouts have been recognized since the display debuted in Jan. 2017.

The first three groups of honorees are listed below.

- Sunny Litteral-Jones (softball, 1996-99)

- Kari Daugherty-Pickens (basketball, 2011-13)

- Jamie Minnich-McDaniel (swimming, 1996-98)

- Bobbi Pugh-Weaver (volleyball, 1988-91)

- Dr. Ella Shannon (administrator/field hockey head coach)

 

SECOND GROUP OF HISTORY OF WOMEN'S ATHLETICS HONOREES

- Adriane Blewitt-Wilson (track and field, 1999-2003)

- Jackie Jeschelnig-Ulm (track and field, 1998-2003)

- Dr. Carol Mertler (coach/administrator, 1966-76)

- Darla Plice (basketball, 1975-78)

- Kristy Ritchie (soccer, 1998-2001)

- Mary Kate Glowe (volleyball, 2004-07)

- Sheilah Gulas (head softball coach, 1997-2017)

- Alane Keefer (cross country, 1982-85)
