Gable Named Assistant AD, Senior Women’s Administrator

On Wednesday (Nov. 7), Ashland University Director of Athletics Al King announced that Heather Gable has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Administrative Services/Senior Women's Administrator.

Gable is in her second year in the AU athletic department, starting as the administrative assistant in the main athletic office. Her previous collegiate athletics experience includes two years as an assistant softball coach at Ohio Wesleyan, as well as being a collegiate softball player at both Northwest Missouri State and North Alabama.

"Heather's background as a former NCAA Division II student-athlete and NCAA Division III coach will serve her well in this role," King said. "She's going to bring some valuable perspectives to the SWA position. Her maturity and experience will help our student-athletes, coaches and staff members. In the time she's been with us she's been an outstanding employee. Heather hasn't been afraid to ask questions, examine our current practices, search for new and effective methods and challenge different ways of thinking. That's exactly what we need in a Senior Women's Administrator."

Said Gable, "I'm honored to be granted the opportunity to work with our talented staff, coaches, and support personnel, and I'm very grateful for Al King and Dr. (Carlos) Campo's trust in my ability to help advance our athletic department. My goal is to continue to maintain the principles laid out by those before me, and build upon that foundation to help guide AU Athletics to even greater success and opportunities for our student-athletes."

As Ashland's SWA, Gable will be involved in game management, sport oversight, budget oversight, strategic planning and more. She also will serve on AU's Hall of Fame Committee.

Prior to coming to Ashland, Gable had previous business experience as owner of her own home child care business from 2010-16, and as administrative assistant to the executive director at Blue Valley School District in Kansas from 2007-08.

"My hope was to find someone who could take over this position and expand it," said King. "The SWA is a key part of the athletic department and frankly, we needed someone who could take this position and grow it. We need our SWA to be active on campus, in the conference and on the NCAA level. I believe Heather can do that."

Gable is a 2004 graduate of North Alabama, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and a Minor in Business Administration.
