Ashland University's athletic department has announced more details regarding its three upcoming canned food drives at Eagle home basketball games.

Canned food will be collected at the following basketball games at Kates Gymnasium – the Saturday night (Dec. 15, 7:30) men's game vs. Lawrence Tech, the Monday night (Dec. 17, 5:30) women's game vs. Notre Dame College, and the Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 19, 3 p.m.) men's game against Kentucky Christian.

All canned goods collected at those three games will be donated to the Salvation Army Food Pantry, which serves about 300 families a month. These items will benefit low-income families within Ashland County.

For every three food items brought, that fan will get a ticket for a prize drawing. The prizes include AU book bags, AU t-shirts, holiday candy trays from the Flour Barrel, holiday candy, and three $15 vouchers for food at the AU concession stand.

In addition, for the Wednesday-afternoon men's game, Santa Claus will be on hand from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Kates Gymnasium lobby.

The Eagle men's basketball team is 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and is ranked No. 16 in NCAA Division II. Ashland's men are tied the third-best start to a season in program history (15-0 start in 1990-91, 9-0 start in 1989-90).

Ashland's women are 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC, and are ranked No. 8 in D-II. The Eagle women have started with at least eight wins in their first nine contests for the fourth season in a row, and the seventh time this decade.
