Ashland University's athletic department has had a big year on the fields of competition so far in 2018-19, and that success continues to carry over into the classroom, as well.
Seventy Eagle winter student-athletes were honored by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Thursday (March 21) morning, as the 2018-19 GLIAC winter academic awards were released.
Thirty-three Ashland student-athletes earned spots on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence team, while 37 Eagles did the same on the GLIAC All-Academic team.
From the GLIAC web site: "Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or a first-year transfer student. All-Academic Teams are comprised of those student-athletes that meet criteria and carry a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0-3.49. Academic Excellence Teams are comprised of student-athletes that have a cumulative GPA of 3.50-4.0. Grades are based on marks from the fall semester of 2018."

Added to the 98 fall awards, Ashland student-athletes have garnered 168 total academic honors from the GLIAC so far during the 2018-19 school year.
In addition to the 70 official GLIAC academic winter honors, Ashland's wrestling team would have added another nine to the total. The GLIAC does not sponsor wrestling, and therefore, Eagle wrestlers were not eligible to be included on the winter academic lists.
