The 2018-19 Ashland University academic year has concluded, and with that, the announcement of the 32nd set of AU Student-Athletes of the Year has arrived.

Senior Kylie Asmus (softball first baseman) and junior John Duldner (men's soccer midfielder) are the latest Eagles to be named Student-Athletes of the Year, a faculty honor voted on by the Athletic Committee. Asmus and Duldner will be recognized at the 2019 Ashland University Hall of Fame Induction and Student-Athlete of the Year Recognition on Oct. 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the Faculty Room at the John C. Myers Convocation Center.

Asmus was in her third season as a starter at first base for the Eagles in 2019, finishing her senior campaign hitting .313 with 24 runs scored, 14 doubles, three triples, a home run, 33 RBIs, a .428 slugging percentage and just seven strikeouts in 201 at-bats.

In her Ashland career, Asmus was a .330 hitter, and compiled 69 runs scored, 174 hits, 33 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 74 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.

Asmus was named the AU Class of 2019 valedictorian, and graduated earlier this month with a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average as an Exercise Science major. She is the fourth player in program history to be Student-Athlete of the Year, following Alicia Longstreth (2002), Desi Gillman (1996) and Heather Lefford (1995).

Duldner has been a standout for the men's soccer program since its return, and in his third season as a starter, helped the Eagles to a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship and a return to the NCAA Division II postseason in 2018. In 20 matches last fall, Duldner posted two goals, three assists and seven points, and earned second-team All-GLIAC honors.

He has played 52 games over three seasons as an Eagle, recording five goals and five assists.

Also an Academic All-Ohio choice by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association last fall, Duldner sported a 3.99 cumulative GPA through the fall 2018 semester as a Biology major. He is the first player in program history to be named Student-Athlete of the Year.
