Ashland University head cheer and dance coach Denise Farnsworth is adding another title to her resumé, as she has been named the Ohio Association of Secondary Schools (OASSA) cheer & dance competition director.

Farnsworth will continue in her role leading the Eagle cheer and dance program.

"I am incredibly grateful and honored to have been selected by the Ohio Association of Secondary Schools as the new cheer & dance competition director," Farnsworth said. "I spent 15-plus years coaching in the high school circuit, and I understand the importance of this role. I look forward to serving all of the cheer and dance teams and coaches in the state of Ohio, and sharing my undying passion for these sports that we love so much.

"I see us (Ashland's program) growing from this. The recruiting potential is astronomical. The potential for our clinics to be even greater, our college prep clinics, I'm guessing the attendance will go up. It just gives us a platform to speak to more of the young athletes in Ohio."

Farnsworth, who will be in her third season at Ashland in 2019-20, has spent more than two decades as a cheer and dance coach, starting at Ashland Middle School in 1998, and advancing to Rock Solid Cheer Academy in Hilliard, Ohio; Upper Arlington High School, and Ashland High School, prior to starting at AU.

"I would like to give a special thank you to AU Athletic Director Al King for allowing me to pursue this next big step," Farnsworth said, "and for always believing in the growth of cheer and dance. And thank you to my wonderful assistant coach, Brandy Marquette, for always being the best support system."
