Ashland Finishes Second in GLIAC Presidents' Trophy Race

The Ashland University claimed a second-place finish in the 2018-19 race for the GLIAC Presidents' Trophy, the league's all-sport competition to measure general excellence across athletic departments.

It is the 14th straight year the Eagles have finished as the league's runner-up behind Grand Valley State. Ashland has three Presidents' Trophy titles in its history, coming in a three-year stretch from 1995-98. Only twice in its 24-year history in the GLIAC has AU finished lower than second.

The Eagles finished with 132 points in the all-sport standings, 34 behind champion Grand Valley State. It was the narrowest gap between the two schools since the 2011-12 school year. Ashland's men's teams finished just one point (66-65) behind GVSU this year.

GLIAC Presidents' Trophy standings are based on final regular-season standings, except for the following sports that are based on conference tournament finish – cross country, golf, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and swimming and diving.

The Eagles won the GLIAC regular season championship in baseball this season, earning the full eight points in the sport. Ashland was the runner-up in men's basketball, women's basketball, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field, and men's golf.

Saginaw Valley was third in the all-sport standings with 108.5 points while Wayne State was fourth with 100 points.
