Dusty Sloan is in his third year as Ashland University's Director of Athletic Communications after spending three years as AU's Director of Sports Information.

As one of two AU Directors of Athletic Communications, Sloan, a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), is responsible for all publicity concerning AU's 23 varsity sports, helping leading the athletic department's social media efforts and updating goashlandeagles.com, statistics and records.

Sloan has served as the official media host for the 2017 and 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's women's basketball Final Fours, the 2016 GLIAC women's and men's basketball Final Fours, the 2016-18 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional women's basketball tournaments, and the 2019 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional 1 and Midwest Super Regional baseball tournaments.

He also has represented the Eagles on the road at the 2017-18 D-II women's basketball Elite Eights, at two Midwest Regional baseball tournaments and two Midwest Regional women's hoops tourneys.

Sloan also has been the chairman of the Ashland University Hall of Fame Committee since the beginning of 2018, has served on various athletic department search committees, and also serves on the university's Internet Security Committee.

In May of 2017, Sloan earned his first CoSIDA Stabley Writing Contest regional award. In June of 2018, he earned his second such honor. CoSIDA also recognized Sloan for being the SID for D-II national-championship teams in 2017 (women's basketball) and 2019 (men's indoor track and field and men's outdoor track and field).

As of the summer of 2019, Sloan is the fourth-longest-tenured Sports Information Director in Ashland history, behind only Al King (21 years), Chuck Mistovich (11) and Al Hall (eight).

Sloan is a 27-year veteran of sports writing, in both print and online mediums. Prior to being brought on full-time, he was contracted to do written football content for the AU’s Sports Information Office, which included content for game programs, goashlandeagles.com and weekly press releases, as well as online player bios. Sloan also assisted with the game-day football statistics crew at the start of the 2014 season.

The bulk of Sloan’s professional sports-writing experience (1993-2008) came in the sports department at his hometown newspaper, the Ashland Times-Gazette – first as a sports writer, then as sports editor. He won three Associated Press awards while at the T-G.

Sloan, a 1999 Ashland University graduate, is one of only two people to serve both as Ashland University Sports Information Director and Times-Gazette sports editor, along with Mistovich. Sloan also worked in the AU sports information office as a student.

Sloan, 43, resides in Ashland with his wife of more than 11 years, Mandy.
