High School: Frate was a four-year varsity letterwinner at North Royalton High School. He was named to the All-Northeast Ohio Conference team and the North Royalton High School MVP. Frate was also an All-NOC honorable mention performer in 2008. He was 4-1 with a 2.32 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched under head coach Jim Thamann.

Personal: He was born on Jan. 13, 1992. His parents are Remo and Kim Frate. He is majoring in sport management at AU.
