Baseball Team Ends Long Day With Split

            The Ashland University baseball team divided a doubleheader with Rockhurst on Thursday (Mar. 8) in Auburndale, Fla.  In the first game, Rockhurst outlasted the Eagles, 4-2 in 13 innings.  Ashland came back to win the second game, 5-1.  The Eagles are 6-2 heading into Friday's game (Mar. 9) against Seton Hill.

            Pitching dominated the first game. AU started sophomore left-hander Cole Hudson (Dresden, Ohio/Zanesville) and he went seven innings, allowing two runs.  The Eagles scored a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth to tie the game, 2-2.

            After that, neither team could score until Rockhurst pushed across two runs in the 13th inning. The loss went to Zach Botjer (Deshler, Ohio/Sinclair C.C.), who went six innings. Botjer struck out nine.

            Senior outfielder Ethan Houck (Fort Wayne, Ind./Glen Oaks C.C.) was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

            In the second game, junior right-hander Shayne Herold (LeRoy, N.Y./Genessee C.C.) pitched a complete game. Herold fanned 11.  Austin Erb (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.  Catcher Mickey Manser (Salem, Ohio/West Branch) went 1-for-3 and drove in a run.
