Kaido, Hilt Named GLIAC's Weekly Best

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University baseball team went 4-0 last week and two individuals were rewarded for their performances.

Sophomore outfielder/infielder Wade Kaido (Zanesville, Ohio) was named the GLIAC Player of the Week and senior right-hander Aaron Hilt (Richmond, Ohio/Edison) was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week. It is just the second time this season a team has swept the conference weekly awards.

Kaido batted .571 (8-for-14) last week and was the Eagles' leading hitter. He was 4-for-8 with a double and three RBI in a doubleheader sweep at Lake Erie last Wednesday (April 4). He also stole two bases that day.

In Saturday's (April 7) wins over Ohio Dominican, Kaido was 4-for-6 with a triple and a pair of RBI. His two-run single in the bottom of the sixth in Saturday's nightcap was the game-winner, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead.

On Monday (April 9), Kaido added four more hits to his total. He is AU's third-leading hitter, batting .360 for the season with a team-leading nine doubles. He also is tied for the team high with four stolen bases.

Hilt was dominant in three outings last week, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. At Lake Erie, he recorded two saves – the first in his career. He had gone 40 career appearances before recording a save. In those saves, he faced three batters and retired them all via strikeout.

In Saturday's nightcap against the Panthers, Hilt tossed a complete game, striking out nine and walking just one. He allowed two unearned runs on three hits.

Hilt is 5-3 on the season with a 4.43 ERA and a GLIAC-leading 44.2 innings pitched.

The Eagles, winners of five of their last six games, host GLIAC leader Saginaw Valley State in a four-game series beginning Saturday (April 14) at 1 p.m. at Donges Field.
