Eagles Take First Two Of Four-Game Set At ODU

Ashland University's baseball team got the delayed four-game series at Ohio Dominican off on the right foot on Sunday (March 29), winning 5-4 and 5-1 decisions.

The Eagles, ranked No. 24 in Division II, improve to 15-7 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Ashland also has an early-season-best 2-0 mark within the GLIAC South Division.

The Panthers are 10-8, 2-4.

Game 1 saw junior pitcher Jake Baldwin improve to 4-0 after a complete-game six-hitter. He struck out five, walked one and allowed four runs (three earned). Of AU's eight hits, two each came from junior third baseman Blake Bellman (2-for-4, three RBIs) and sophomore catcher Adam Vasil (2-for-3).

In the nightcap, sophomore pitcher Brandyn Sittinger moved to 2-0 after giving up just five hits, a run and five walks in eight innings. He struck out five. Sophomore pitcher Cory Teachout pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Senior second baseman Stephen James had three of the Eagles' eight hits, and sophomore designated hitter Steve Mowry and junior first baseman Mike Lewandowski each drove in two runs.

The Eagles and Panthers will complete their four-game set with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Monday (March 30) in Columbus.
