Mowry Named Smucker Scholarship Award Winner

Ashland University redshirt sophomore designated hitter Steve Mowry, an Accounting and Finance major, was named 2014-15 The J.M. Smucker Co. scholarship award winner at AU's Student Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) meeting.

The scholarship was presented to Mowry by Nick Workinger, director of U.S. Retail Sales Finance of The J.M. Smucker Co.

"I am honored to be the recipient of the 2014-2015 J.M. Smucker scholarship. This scholarship will undoubtedly help me to develop both as a student and young business professional," Mowry said. "The J.M. Smucker Company has a great relationship in developing and aiding Ashland University students, and I am very appreciative to have been selected to receive this scholarship."

The criteria for the annual Ashland University Smucker scholarship, established in 2008, include a grade point average of at least 3.0, junior or senior status (Mowry is a junior academically), an accounting or finance major, industry internship experience and a member of the Eagle Investment Group or the Institute of Management (IMA) student chapter or other Ashland University student organization.

Mowry has seen his most extensive playing time for Ashland's baseball team this spring, hitting .290 with nine doubles, a home run and 23 RBIs in 100 at-bats.
