Warren Selected In 23rd Round By Mariners

Ashland University right-handed pitcher Art Warren was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 23rd round (No. 695 overall) of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday (June 10) afternoon.

Warren, a 6-foot-4 right-hander who transferred to Ashland from Division I Cincinnati, was 5-4 with a 3.88 earned run average in 60 1/3 innings over 12 starts in 2015. He allowed 48 hits and 47 walks while striking out 52, and yielded just one home run.

At the Midwest Regional tournament in St. Charles, Mo., Warren defeated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Grand Valley State, throwing a three-hit shutout over six innings. He had five starts in which he went at least 4 1/3 innings and didn't give up a run this spring.

Warren is the seventh Ashland player to be taken in the MLB Draft, and the first Eagle to be selected since pitcher Troy Mooney by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1989.
