Eagle Baseball Chosen To Win GLIAC South In 2016

Ashland University's baseball team has been chosen to repeat as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division champions, as the 2016 GLIAC Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll was released on Thursday (Feb. 4).

The Eagles received 10 of 12 first-place votes, and 64 voting points overall. Ohio Dominican (two first-place votes, 51 points) was picked to finish second in the South.

In the North Division, Grand Valley State has been picked to repeat as champion, garnering 10 first-place votes and 64 points. Wayne State (one first-place vote, 56 points) and Northwood (one first-place vote, 42 points) were chosen to finish second and third, respectively.

In 2015, the Eagles were 38-19, and won the first-ever GLIAC South baseball championship. They were the GLIAC Tournament and Midwest Region tournament runners-up.

Ashland's 2016 season will begin on Saturday, Feb. 27 with games in Evansville, Ind., against Missouri-St. Louis (1 p.m.) and Southern Indiana (4 p.m.)
