Ashland University's baseball team saw its three-game winning streak end on Monday (March 7) following a 7-3 loss to Slippery Rock in Florida.

The Eagles trailed 3-0 after one inning and 4-0 after three. In the bottom of the fourth, senior designated hitter Mackenzie Hampshire hit an RBI single, and freshman left fielder Tyler Seymour plated a second run on an error on a ground out.

Slippery Rock never lost the lead, however, scoring a single run in the fifth and two in the eighth. AU scored in the sixth on an RBI double by junior pinch-hitter Carsten Dembeck.

Junior third baseman Lance Myers was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and senior center fielder Nick Edwards and sophomore second baseman J.P. Sorma each had two hits.

Sophomore pitcher Luke Smith took the loss, allowing six hits, five runs and three walks and striking out six in 4 2/3 innings.

Ashland (4-3) will return to the Florida fields on Tuesday (March 8) at 9:30 a.m. against Ohio Valley.
