Nine-Run First Inning Sinks Eagles In 14-5 Defeat

Ashland University's baseball team dropped to 5-4 on the season and 4-2 on the Florida trip after a 14-5 loss on Wednesday (March 9) against Minnesota State-Mankato.

A nine-run first inning for Mankato put the Eagles in a hole they couldn't climb out of. AU later got solid relief work from freshman right-hander Sam Rice (3 2/3 innings, two runs) and senior lefty Matt Kruzel (three innings, one unearned run).

Ashland received two hits each from senior Mike Lewandowski, junior Brad Hartman and freshman Ivan Wortman. Lewandowski also drove in two runs.

The Eagles will play a doubleheader on Thursday (March 10) in Florida against Alderson Broaddus at 2:30 p.m.
