Ashland University's baseball team was able to win a game on Friday (April 8) before Mother Nature once again intervened.
The Eagles improved to 15-11 overall, 6-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 5-0 in the GLIAC South Division following a 4-1 win on Friday at Tiffin (11-16/2-7/1-4) in a game originally scheduled for Saturday (April 9).
The second game of Friday's doubleheader was postponed to Tuesday (April 12) at 2 p.m. due to impending weather. The other doubleheader in the originally-scheduled four-game set still is scheduled for Sunday (April 10) at 1 p.m.
Friday's game saw junior right-handed pitcher Brandyn Sittinger continue his torrid pace. Sittinger is 5-0 in 2016 following a complete-game six-hitter in which he struck out 14 and allowed just one run and three walks.
In his last three starts, Sittinger has struck out 31, walked 12 and allowed 10 hits and three runs over 20 1/3 innings.
Ashland jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning. Senior first baseman Mackenzie Hampshire hit an RBI single, and sophomore designated hitter Greg Ludwig followed with a two-run double.
The Eagles added their fourth run in the seventh on an RBI double by junior third baseman Lance Myers.
Hampshire, Ludwig, senior second baseman Mike Lewandowski and junior catcher Adam Vasil each had two of Ashland's 10 hits.
