Eagles To Make 15th Division II Playoff Appearance

2016 NCAA DIVISION II BASEBALL BRACKET

Ashland University's baseball team once again has gotten the postseason call, as the Eagles found out on Sunday (May 15) night that they will go to the NCAA Division II postseason for the 15th time.

Earning an at-large bid to the eight-team Division II Midwest Regional tournament in Quincy, Ill., Ashland (31-20) will be the No. 6 seed, and will begin play on Thursday (May 19) against No. 3 seed Indianapolis (37-19). Game times will be determined on Monday (May 16).

Also on Thursday, top-seed and host Quincy (37-16) will play Alderson Broaddus (31-19), No. 2 Grand Valley State (35-16-1) will face No. 7 Hillsdale (32-22) and No. 4 Southern Indiana (33-19) will take on No. 5 Missouri S&T (35-17).

The Midwest Regional championship game(s) will be on May 23.

Grand Valley State (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), Indianapolis (Great Lakes Valley Conference) and Alderson Broaddus (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) all earned automatic bids by winning their respective conference tournaments.

The winners of each of the eight regional tournaments will advance to the 2016 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, May 28-June 4 in Cary, N.C.

The Eagles won a share of the 2016 GLIAC regular-season title, but went 0-2 in the GLIAC Tournament. Ashland will look to the Midwest Regional for a reversal of fortune – AU is 3-6 in May after going 27-12 in March and April combined.

Ashland is 28-31 all-time in the NCAA Division II postseason. The Eagles are going to the playoffs for the second season in a row and the fourth time this decade. All of AU's D-II postseason appearances have come since 1995.
