Sittinger Lands D2CCA Midwest Pitcher Of The Year Award

In an awards-filled junior season, Ashland University right-handed pitcher Brandyn Sittinger landed another on Thursday (May 19) morning, as he was named the 2016 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year.

Sittinger is 10-0 with a 2.34 earned-run average and 117 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings this spring. Earlier this season, he was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, first-team All-GLIAC, All-GLIAC Tournament team, a semifinalist for the D2 Baseball News' Brett Tomko Division II Pitcher of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Sittinger also is a first-team All-Midwest Region choice, along with sophomore third baseman J.P. Sorma at the utility position. Sorma is on a 25-game hitting streak, and is hitting .383 with 11 doubles, 15 home runs and 54 RBIs.

Senior first baseman Mackenzie Hampshire is a second-team All-Midwest Region selection. He is a .384 hitter with 11 doubles, two triples, five homers, 53 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.

Ashland's baseball team (31-20) will begin Midwest Regional tournament play on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern against Indianapolis (37-19).
