Hours after earning Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year honors, Ashland University junior right-handed pitcher Brandyn Sittinger landed the same award from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Thursday (May 19) afternoon.
Sittinger is 10-0 with a 2.34 earned-run average and 117 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings this spring. Earlier this season, he was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, first-team All-GLIAC, All-GLIAC Tournament team, a semifinalist for the D2 Baseball News' Brett Tomko Division II Pitcher of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-District.
As was the case with the D2CCA, both Sittinger and sophomore third baseman J.P. Sorma earned spots on the NCBWA All-Midwest Region first team. Sorma is on a 25-game hitting streak, and is hitting .383 with 11 doubles, 15 home runs and 54 RBIs.
Earning all-region second-team honors was junior designated hitter Lance Myers, who is hitting .363 with 14 doubles, two homers and 39 RBIs.
Ashland's baseball team (31-20) will begin Midwest Regional tournament play on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern against Indianapolis (37-19).
