Sorma, Myers Gain CBN Pre-Season All-American Status

Ashland University junior second baseman/shortstop/outfielder J.P. Sorma and senior third baseman/first baseman Lance Myers have earned Midwest Region Pre-Season All-American status from College Baseball Newspaper.

Sorma, noted as a third baseman on the All-American list, hit .381 with 17 home runs, 11 doubles, 51 runs scored, 59 RBIs and a .695 slugging percentage in 2016. Myers, listed as a designated hitter, was a .345 hitter a spring ago with 43 runs scored, 15 doubles, two home runs, 39 RBIs and a .452 slugging percentage.

In addition, senior left-handed pitcher Mike Gentile was named a Midwest Region Player To Watch by CBN after a 2016 campaign in which he was 2-1 with a save and a 3.33 earned-run average and 54 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings.

Also, junior outfielder Connor Barleben was chosen by CBN as a Midwest Region Newcomer To Watch after coming over from Genesee Community College following a 2016 season which included a .364 average, 47 runs scored, 13 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 36 RBIs, 11 stolen bases and a .595 slugging percentage.
