Ashland Loses To Minnesota-Duluth In Lakeland

On Day 5 of its annual spring break trip in Florida, Ashland University's baseball team lost an 11-4 decision to Minnesota-Duluth at historic Henley Field in Lakeland.

The Eagles are 3-6, while the Bulldogs are 2-5.

Of Ashland's nine hits, three came off the bat of junior first baseman Greg Ludwig, who also drove in two runs. Junior second baseman J.P. Sorma was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and freshman left fielder Vince Vanata went 2-for-5 and scored two runs.

Junior right-hander Pat Carlozzi took the loss on the mound, allowing five hits, four runs and three walks in four innings. He struck out five.

Ashland countered each of Duluth's single runs in the first and third innings with tallies of its own in the bottom of those frames. Sorma hit his homer in the first, then drove in a run with a single in the third.

The Bulldogs pulled away with two runs in the top of the fourth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Eagles finished their scoring with two in the bottom of the seventh on Ludwig's two-run single.

UP NEXT: Wednesday (March 8) at 9:30 a.m. against West Virginia Wesleyan.
