On Wednesday (March 8) morning, Ashland University's baseball team used two runs each in the eighth and ninth innings and a strong outing from senior left-handed pitcher Mike Gentile to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan, 7-4.
The Eagles improve to 4-6 after snapping a three-game losing streak, while the Bobcats are 0-7.
Trailing 4-3 going into the eighth inning, Ashland scored twice in the eighth, the winning run scored by freshman outfielder Mac Schoenman, and twice in the ninth on a two-run home run by freshman first baseman Carson Mittermaier.
Schoenman was 2-for-2 in the victory.
Gentile twirled a complete-game seven-hitter, striking out 11. He allowed four runs (one earned) and no walks.
