Ashland Baseball Falls To Pumas In Florida

Ashland University's baseball team lost on Thursday (March 9) to St. Joseph's, Ind., 18-4, to continue its Florida trip.

After three scoreless innings, the Eagles struck first with two runs in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by freshman designated hitter Carson Mittermaier and a sacrifice fly from senior right fielder Carsten Dembeck.

The Pumas scored four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead into the sixth, where Ashland scored twice thanks to a run-scoring single by junior first baseman Greg Ludwig and an RBI double from Dembeck.

St. Joe's ended the game with crooked numbers in the sixth (three runs), seventh (three) and eighth (seven) innings.

Of Ashland's 10 hits, two each came from Dembeck, Ludwig and Mittermaier.

Sophomore right-hander Chris Slavik took the loss, allowing seven hits, four runs and three walks and striking out three in 3 2/3 innings.
