Ashland University's baseball team finished its four-game set at Findlay on Tuesday (March 21), splitting another doubleheader with the Oilers.

The Eagles (8-11 overall, 2-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) took a 4-1 decision in Game 1 on Tuesday, then lost 9-7 in the nightcap. Findlay is 11-3, 2-2.

In Tuesday's opener, Ashland rode the left arm of senior pitcher Mike Gentile, who authored a complete-game three-hitter. Gentile walked three and struck out nine to improve to 3-3.

Trailing 1-0 after four innings, the Eagles put up consecutive two-run frames. In the fifth, junior second baseman J.P. Sorma collected a two-run double, then senior shortstop Brad Hartman did the same thing in the sixth.

Hartman and freshman left fielder Vince Vanata each had two of Ashland's 10 hits.

In Game 2, the Eagles fell victim to a five-run bottom of the second inning and a three-run bottom of the fifth. Junior right-hander Luke Smith (1-2) started and took the loss, allowing eight hits, eight runs (six earned) and two walks and striking out four in 4 1/3 innings.

Sorma was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, while Vanata and Hartman each again had two hits.
