Back at Donges Field on Monday (April 17) afternoon to finish a rain-shortened three-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series against Ohio Dominican, Ashland University's baseball team lost 8-3 and 8-1 decisions against the Panthers.

The Eagles are 13-24 overall and 6-15 in the GLIAC, while ODU is 18-14, 9-8.

Ohio Dominican jumped ahead in Monday's opener, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, one in the second and two in the third. Ashland got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by freshman third baseman Kevin Browne.

Trailing 7-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles scored twice on back-to-back run-scoring hits from senior center fielder Carsten Dembeck (triple) and junior second baseman J.P. Sorma (single). ODU, however, scored another run in the seventh to end the scoring.

Dembeck was 3-for-4, and Sorma and junior designated hitter Connor Barleben each 2-for-4 in Ashland's 10-hit attack. Sophomore right-hander Sam Rice (2-6) took the loss, allowing eight hits, six runs and a walk and striking out two in 2 2/3 innings.

Game 2 took a similar form, with the Panthers scoring twice in the first, three times in the third and thrice more in the sixth for an 8-0 lead after 5½ innings. The Eagles' run came in the bottom of the sixth when Sorma's RBI double plated freshman center fielder Mac Schoenman.

Senior lefty Mike Gentile (4-8) went the first three innings, giving up four hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks and striking out three.

UP NEXT: Another home GLIAC doubleheader on Wednesday (April 19) at 1 p.m. vs. Grand Valley State.
