Ashland University's baseball team lost a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road games on Saturday (April 22), falling 3-2 and 9-1 to Tiffin.

In Saturday's opener, the Eagles (13-28 overall, 6-19 GLIAC) scored single runs in the top of the first inning and the top of the fifth. In the first, an RBI ground out from freshman first baseman Carson Mittermaier plated freshman left fielder Vince Vanata. Then, in the fifth, junior third baseman J.P. Sorma's sacrifice fly brought in Vanata.

The Dragons (22-17, 14-8) scored twice in the bottom of the second, and the game was knotted at 2 until the bottom of the seventh, when Tiffin scored the game-winning run on an Alec McCurry RBI single.

Sophomore right-hander Sam Rice (2-7) went the distance, yielding seven hits, three runs and four walks and striking out five in 6 1/3 innings. Vanata and senior center fielder Carsten Dembeck each had two of AU's five hits.

For Tiffin, Ricky Krieger (3-2) threw a complete-game five-hitter, allowing two runs and five walks and striking out seven.

In the nightcap, Tiffin scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning and went on to the victory from there.

For the Dragons, Marc Deitsch (1-1) allowed five hits, a run and no walks and struck out six over eight innings.
