Ashland University sophomore right-hander Chance Hitchcock was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week the league office announced on Monday (March 12) morning.
Hitchcock made two starts during Ashland's nine-game spring break trip and went 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA. He struck out 13 and walked only two in 13 2/3 innings.
Last Monday, Hitchcock struck out 10 Findlay batters and gave up just two runs on four hits in 7 2/3 innings as the Eagles defeated the Oilers, 5-3.
In Ashland's final game of the trip, Hitchcock tossed six solid innings against Notre Dame, surrendering just one run in six innings of work. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Hitchcock is the first AU hurler to win the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honor since Chris Slavik on April 3 last season.
The Eagles (8-3) won eight of their nine games at the Russ Matt Invitational and are scheduled to play a home-opening doubleheader on Saturday (March 17) at 1 p.m. against Gannon.
