Barleben Named GLIAC Player of the Week

Ashland University senior outfielder Connor Barleben was named the GLIAC Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday (April 9).

Barleben is the first AU position player to be recognized with a GLIAC weekly honor since Mackenzie Hampshire was the Player of the Week on May 2, 2016. Earlier this season, sophomore Chance Hitchcock won Pitcher of the Week honors.

Barleben led the AU offense last week as the Eagles won all six of their games, including two against West Liberty and a four-game sweep against GLIAC foe Saginaw Valley State over the weekend.

In total, Barleben hit .600 (12-for-20) with three homers, two doubles, 13 RBI and nine runs scored. He also drew three walks and reached base at a .667 clip.

Barleben hit three home runs in the first four innings of a 24-10 rout of the Hilltoppers on Thursday, scoring four runs and driving in seven. He totaled nine hits and six RBI in Ashland's four-game sweep of the Cardinals.

Barleben leads the GLIAC in slugging percentage (.798) and is second in the conference with eight home runs.

The Eagles (18-9, 8-4 GLIAC) have won nine of their last 10 games and have won six in a row. Ashland is now in second place in the conference standings with a four-game set against Grand Valley State coming next weekend. First, AU will play host to Walsh on Tuesday (April 10) for a nonconference doubleheader that will start at 2 p.m. at Donges Field.
