Eagles No. 5 In First Release of Region Rankings

The Ashland University baseball team was ranked No. 5 in the first release of the NCAA Division II Midwest Region rankings issued on Wednesday (April 25) evening.

The top eight teams in the region, including the tournament champions of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic, Great Lakes Valley and Great Midwest Athletic Conferences, will qualify for the NCAA Tournament field, which will be announced May 13 at 10 p.m.

The Eagles (26-13) are looking to advance to the NCAA field for the third time in the last four years after earning berths in 2015 and 2016.

Other GLIAC teams in the rankings include Northwood (No. 3) and Grand Valley State (No. 7).

The Eagles won three games in a four-game set against Purdue Northwest last weekend, but dropped a 12-10 decision to Ohio Dominican (ranked No. 4 in the region) on Wednesday, which was not included in the regional rankings.

Ashland heads on the road Thursday at 5 p.m. to start at four-game series against Davenport. The teams are second and third in the GLIAC standings, respectively.

The full NCAA Division II Midwest Region rankings follow.
